- To understand the characteristics of older residents in the City of Holdfast Bay.
- To establish if the older adults in City of Holdfast Bay are engaged in outdoor activities which has the potential to minimise their social isolation.
- To establish areas for improvement to enable a dementia-friendly community.
- To establish areas of intervention to raise dementia awareness.
- To obtain input from residents on how to make the City of Holdfast Bay dementia-friendly.
- To obtain expression of interest to participate in future dementia-friendly focus groups (Identifying information is collected and kept by the City of Holdfast Bay. The details will remain anonymous to Flinders University researcher.)
Description of the study
This study is part of the project titled ‘City of Holdfast Bay Dementia-Friendly Community Survey’. In collaboration with the City of Holdfast Bay council, the project will administer either online or paper-based survey to the residents in the City of Holdfast Bay. The project is a precursor to another project to enable ‘Dementia-Friendly Businesses’ (DFB) which contributes to the overall ‘Dementia-Friendly Community’ (DFC) vision of the City of Holdfast Bay. The information gathered would inform policies that would enable the development of sustainable and inclusive environment, to empower people living with dementia to lead a meaningful life connected with their community. A dementia-friendly community and physical environment would have the core characteristics that would benefit all members of the community. This project is supported by Flinders University, College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

Will I be identifiable by being involved in this study?
Your name is not required for the purpose of this project and you will therefore be anonymous. Any identifying information (if provided) will be removed by City of Holdfast Bay’s Community Engagement Coordinator, and your comments will not be linked directly to you. If you have completed the section to be involved in a future focus group, this information will be removed from the rest of the survey answers before forwarding it to the researcher. All information and results obtained in this study will be stored in a secure way, with access restricted to relevant researchers.
