Consultation has concluded

We invite you to share your view on the City of Holdfast Bay's draft Dog and Cat Management Plan 2022 – 2026.

The aim of the plan is to promote responsible pet ownership, increase the welfare of dogs and cats, and protect the community and the environment from nuisance dogs and cats.

The plan seeks to balance the needs of pet owners and the broader community, where people and pets can safely co-exist within the community.

The plan covers the following:

  • Identifies and evaluates animal management services and training programs for authorised officers
  • Promotes and encourages responsible pet ownership
  • Minimises the risk of dog attacks in the community
  • Encourages the registration and identification of dogs and cats
  • Minimises the potential for dogs and cats to create nuisance
  • Effectively identifies and manages all declared dangerous, menacing and restricted breed dogs kept within the council area
  • Reviews current Local Laws and Orders to determine if they are effective
  • Identifies any other specific animal management issues within the City of Holdfast Bay
