We have "bin" recruiting households in Kingston Park, Seacliff, and parts of Somerton Park and North Brighton to join us in helping change our community’s waste habits.
Since September 2020, in a South Australian first, we have been trialing a voluntary change to kerbside bin collections, designed to divert food waste away from landfill. Weekly FOGO is loved by the over 800 households participating and has already been shown to increase landfill diversion rates significantly.
The voluntary trial involves switching the collection frequency of Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) green bins to weekly, and red landfill bins to fortnightly, to make recycling food waste more convenient.
Placing all your food and garden waste in the FOGO bin reduces waste sent to landfill. It also provides our South Australian food growers with nutrient-rich soil.
Sign ups for weekly FOGO are currently closed. An announcement about the future of the trial will be made in the coming months.
