The City of Holdfast Bay has three gullies (Pine, Barton and Gilbertson) that are some of our most prominent and valuable natural areas. The Masterplans for these gullies are high-level plans that set the objectives and strategies to manage the gullies for the community.
Each Masterplan has involved the assessment of opportunities and constraints at each location, and makes recommendations for stormwater management, landscape elements and vegetation management.
Each Masterplan also includes a brief outline of costs and timelines for the proposed works.

Weed control - tree removals at Gilbertson & Pine Gullies
Gullies Masterplans Implementation is currently at this stage
Athel pines are a Weed of National Significance (WONS) that can damage the land in many ways. We are very pleased to have just removed the last of these from Gilbertson Gully and we will be replacing them with native trees and understorey in winter 2021.
In Pine Gully there is one (or possibly two, it's hard to tell) very large athel pine that is due to be removed in December 2020. It will free up an area of the steep southern slope where we will fill in with native grasses in winter 2021. Grasses are excellent for erosion control so they will contribute to stabilising this slope.
