Update and decision for Naming of a Seacliff Park Lane

3 September 2025

When we went out to engagement and why

The community was invited to share its views on four suggested names for an unnamed lane at Seacliff Park. Community engagement is required before assigning a name to a lane under the council’s Naming of Public Places Policy. The engagement process began in mid-June 2025 and ran for twenty-one days. Residents living adjacent to the lane were notified by letter, in addition to postings on Council’s websites and Facebook page. The community were invited to provide feedback via direct mail, email, telephone, in-person enquiries, or via completing an online survey.

What we heard

At the close of the engagement period, 207 contributions were received, and the majority made their selections based on the four suggested names. The engagement findings showed a preference for the name Millar, receiving 134 nominations. The names; Dennehy, Stephens and Freebairn received 51, 21 and 17 nominations respectively. Full details of the engagement results are provided in the attached Engagement Report. Click here to read the Council report and findings received on 27 August 2025.

Conclusion and next steps

Considering the community engagement findings, the Council resolved to assign the name ‘Millar Lane’ to the lane. This name will now be formally gazetted with street signs installed accordingly.

Thank you to everyone who contributed.
