Project Overview
The Tarlton and Whyte Street, Somerton Park project was highlighted in the Stormwater Management Plan as a major outfall project to alleviate flooding issues in the Tarlton Street catchment.
The overall works has consisted of installing a 1.2 metre diameter pipe and a Gross Pollutant Trap along Whyte Street with a headwall and rock protection at the new outlet. The project also included installing a large culvert along Tarlton Street. Other project work included reinstating pavement and connecting the new pipe to the existing pipe at the Whyte Street and Tarlton Street junction. The drainage upgrades will reduce flooding and provide capacity for significant storm events.
SA Water will need to relocate its underground infrastructure at several locations before the stormwater works.
Twin gross pollutant traps will be installed on Harrow Road to collect pollutants in the pipes before entering the ocean. Council currently has eight Gross Pollutant Traps on our major pipelines.
