Construction and renewal works are continuing in the City zone of Jetty Road, with Juperana pavers now starting to be laid as the new footpath treatments.

This section of Jetty Road is between Brighton Road and Partridge / Gordon streets. Although this is part of the overall Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project, the City zone has not been included in the current community consultation on draft concept designs for the rest of the street, as the function of this section of Jetty Road is not changing.

Stormwater upgrades were undertaken late last year, which extended the life of the stormwater infrastructure for another hundred years.

New kerbs and water tables were built to complement the stormwater upgrades, but we recently discovered through our stringent testing and inspections that they were installed at the incorrect level. This error could hinder stormwater flow and cause water to pool on the roads.

As we are unwilling to compromise on the high standard of quality needed to deliver the best outcomes for our community and Jetty Road businesses, the kerbs and water tables are being demolished and reconstructed at the correct level.

Our contractors have taken full responsibility for the error and will bear all costs associated with the rebuild which is now underway and will coincide with the ongoing program of works.

In order to maintain access to each of the businesses in this section of Jetty Road, green matting has been temporarily laid on the footpaths to allow pedestrians to use the footpaths and access Jetty Road businesses while it continues to be a working construction zone.

The matting is now being replaced by the new pavers, and that will continue on both sides of the street as part of the program of works.

All businesses on the street remain accessible with entry ramps being installed as needed.

Juperana pavers have already been used in Chapel Plaza and Bouchee Walk.
