Coast and Transition zones construction starts early August

11 July 2025

Construction in the Coast and Transition zones of Jetty Road, which extends west of the Partridge / Gordon streets intersection into part of Colley Terrace, will begin in early August.

This will coincide with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport's temporary tram closure as part of the Tram Grade Separation Project.

The Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project team will soon begin engaging with traders and Jetty Road businesses, and reviews of the staging plans are underway to ensure pedestrians can continue moving through the area during construction.

Prior to the beginning of August, small areas will be mobilised to support construction investigations, but it’s not anticipated that there will be any impact to pedestrian flow, business access or parking.

The construction in the Coast and Transition zones is expected to be undertaken in three distinctive stages.

The first stage will focus on building the roadway and parking areas on Jetty Road, Colley Terrace, Moseley Street intersection and the Gordon / Partridge intersection during the temporary tram closure (which starts in August 2025).

The second stage will focus on building the remaining footpaths, installation of the garden beds and furniture.

The third stage will focus on completing work in the side streets off Jetty Road.

Keeping pedestrians moving through the area and retaining unobstructed access to businesses is being prioritised as part of the construction plans.

Meanwhile construction in the City zone of Jetty Road, which is the section between Brighton Road and Partridge / Gordon streets, is nearing completion. All the new footpaths are installed with minor cleaning and finishing work underway. The garden beds are also completed but to support the plants as they become established, the garden beds will be temporarily fenced with low pedestrian barriers.

The Rose Street intersection will be installed shortly with minor road closures in place at night to facilitate the installation. To reduce the impact of extended road closures to build the intersection on site, the intersection has been built off site and will be lowered into place.

This method will not only reduce the impact on local traffic access but also supported the busy six day a week delivery services to the Bayside Village.
