Final upcoming road surfacing works

8 May 2026

The final stage of road resurfacing works will begin later this month and will focus on the Gordon and Partridge Streets intersection with Jetty Road. These works will include structural upgrades to the road, a new road surface, new kerbs and water tables, and upgrades to pedestrian ramps and footpath paving to improve the condition and longevity of the intersection.

Work at this busy intersection was scheduled towards the end of the Transforming Jetty Road project, rather than during the main roadworks on the western end of Jetty Road in 2025, to help maintain traffic flow and access along Jetty Road and the precinct.

The works will also include resurfacing the asphalt in the eastern end of Jetty Road (between the Gordon and Partridge Streets intersection and Brighton Road). This resurfacing work addresses a defect in the top layer of asphalt that was identified several months ago and will be carried out at no cost to Council and ratepayers.

PAVING, KERB AND WATER TABLE WORKS

Monday 11 May to Friday 22 May 2026

Footpaths at the eastern corner of the Gordon/Partridge/Jetty Road intersection will be paved ahead of a full intersection renewal, with new kerbs and water tables also to be constructed.

During this period:

  • Pedestrian access and access to businesses during advertised opening times will be maintained.
  • Nighttime traffic interruptions will occur from 9pm to 6am each weeknight, with Gordon Street reduced to one lane and minor daytime lane restrictions, including slip lane closures. Minor delays are expected.
  • On Thursday 14 May, from 9am to 4pm, Gordon Street will be reduced to a single lane, with all traffic movements maintained from that lane. Delays are expected.
  • Traffic will be able to travel in all usual directions through the intersection, but minor delays may occur.

  • Slip lanes from the eastern end of Jetty Road onto the Gordon/Partridge intersections will be closed, with traffic movements retained in the remaining lanes.
  • Tram and bus services will operate as normal.

GORDON AND PARTRIDGE STREETS INTERSECTION WORKS AND JETTY ROAD EAST RESURFACING

Monday 25 May to Friday 12 June 2026

A new road surface will be constructed at the Gordon/Partridge/Jetty Road intersection, with remediation works also carried out along Jetty Road between the Gordon and Partridge Streets intersection and Brighton Road.

During this time:

  • A four-day full closure of traffic movements through the Gordon and Partridge Streets intersection and on Jetty Road between the intersection and Brighton Road will take place from 9 to 12 June, with detours in place.
  • Except during the four-day closure (9-12 June), traffic will flow in a north/south direction through the Gordon and Partridge Streets intersection, but delays are anticipated.

  • There will be some changes to traffic movements through the intersection and along Jetty Road East during this period. Details of the changes will be made available in advance on transformingjettyroad.com.
  • Delays should be expected, particularly during peak periods. Alternative vehicle routes are recommended.

  • All dates and access arrangements are weather-dependent.
  • Full details of the works and changes to traffic conditions will be provided at transformingjettyroad.com

PUBLIC TRANSPORT CHANGES

During road reconstruction works from Monday 25 May to Friday 12 June 2026, the following changes will be in place to support the delivery of the works:

  • Tram services will temporarily terminate at Brighton Road instead of Moseley Square. Tram services will continue between Brighton Road and Adelaide.
  • Some bus services will be rerouted via High Street and Anzac Highway.

Finishing touches along Jetty Road

As the project enters its final stages, you may also see construction crews along Jetty Road completing the finishing touches, including remediation work, planting new garden beds, and installing street furniture such as benches, bike racks, bins, and drinking fountains.

This work will occur in small, localised areas along the street until the project is completed.
