Jetty Road on track to reopen on 19 December 2025

27 November 2025

Jetty Road, east of Moseley Street, is on track to reopen to traffic on Friday 19 December 2025* – and this includes returning on-street car parking along Jetty Road and Moseley Street.

Almost all temporary fencing will be removed from the footpaths and roadway, as the construction footprint significantly reduces in size.

Some low-level fencing will remain in place in isolated areas.

All traffic, including buses, will be able to turn right into Jetty Road from Moseley Street, with buses no longer diverted along High Street.

Durham Street will continue to operate under its current temporary traffic arrangements, with traffic travelling in a southerly direction from Augusta Street exiting left onto Jetty Road. Traffic can also continue south, exiting right onto Moseley Street.

Other key milestones achieved by 19 December:

  • All footpaths on Jetty Road, from Moseley Square to Sussex Street, are on track to be completed
  • Most footpaths from Sussex Street to Nile Street are also on track to be completed
  • The footpath from the northern corner of Moseley Square to Hope Street will be a smooth concrete surface, ready for paving in the new year
  • All garden beds in the Coast zone, from Moseley Square to Sussex Street, will be filled with top soil and some plantings completed
  • Footpaths on Jetty Road, east of Nile Street to the Gordon / Partridge intersection, which have concrete already laid, will have plyboard over the top, but the footpaths will be full width and open for pedestrian access. Paving in these areas will continue in the new year
  • Some footpaths will still have service authority work to be undertaken. In these locations, plywood will be laid at the same level as the footpath to cover these areas and create a consistent footpath level

Work up until 19 December 2025

Council has been undertaking all the work required in the roadway and tram corridor in the western end of Jetty Road, during the temporary suspension of tram services.

The reinstatement of the roadway up to the tram line and construction activities are continuing until 19 December 2025.

Paving is continuing on footpaths along Jetty Road with some restricted access to undertake the paving in place and outdoor dining is gradually returning for use.

Colley Terrace corner - extra space for temporary outdoor dining

The Jetty Road and Colley Terrace corner remains closed to traffic until March 2026, however the area will be activated with outdoor dining and additional public space over the Christmas and new year period.

Concreting across Colley Terrace will begin Friday 28 November 2025 and will continue next week. This concrete will form the foundation for paving treatment across the roadway, which will be undertaken from 5 January 2026 onwards.

With this additional outdoor space, the Transforming Jetty Road project team is finalising plans to activate the area from 19 December 2025 to 4 January 2026 with additional outdoor dining.

Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Increase to street parking times from 1 December

From Monday 1 December 2025, all existing free 1-hour and 2-hour on-street parking spaces in the Jetty Road precinct, from High Street to Augusta Street and the side streets in between, will be changed to 3-hour free parking spaces.

The street parking signs will be altered to reflect this temporary change which will be remain in place until end of January 2026.

The all-day free parking currently offered in the Partridge Street east car park will also be extended until the end of January 2026.

The current paid parking arrangements on Colley Terrace and in the Elizabeth Street car park will be retained.

Moseley Street intersection

The installation of traffic light poles at the Jetty Road / Moseley Street intersection is now underway.

This is an important piece of the design for the western end of Jetty Road, particularly for increasing pedestrian safety across Moseley Street.

The programming and sequencing of the traffic lights will occur early next year, ready for the reopening of Colley Terrace to traffic in March 2026.

The Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project remains on schedule to be completed in the second half of 2026.
