Next stage of construction starting on 4 August, sections of Jetty Road closed to traffic
18 July 2025
In preparation for the start of major construction works on Jetty Road from Monday 4 August, we have more details to share on how the first stage of the Coast and Transition zones will be delivered.
This includes:
As mentioned in the previous news update dated 11 July 2025, the first stage of the Coast and Transition zones construction will focus on building the roadway and parking areas on Jetty Road, Colley Terrace, Moseley Street intersection and the Gordon / Partridge intersection.
While the State Government temporarily suspends the Glenelg tram for its Tram Grade Separation Project, we will be taking this opportunity to undertake intensive construction works on the roadway.
This work includes creating the footpaths and roads at the same level on Jetty Road from Sussex Street, into part of Moseley Street and Colley Terrace up to the Hope Street junction.
From Sussex Street to Nile Street, mountable kerbs and the footpaths will also be built.
The roadway needs to be closed to vehicle traffic to allow these works to happen, however traffic access will be maintained where possible.
Starting 4 August
Jetty Road will be closed to vehicles west of the junction with Nile Street to Moseley Square for this stage of construction.
Colley Terrace will be open, up to the junction of Hope Street, where a turnaround area will be implemented. This will be in place while Jetty Road is closed to vehicle traffic.
There will be one-way vehicle access onto Jetty Road from Moseley Street, via a right-hand turn only from Moseley Street.
Vehicles will be directed to exit left from Jetty Road into Sussex Street.
Durham Street will be temporarily converted to a two-way street with no entry to Durham Street from Jetty Road.
North-south traffic will be maintained in both directions at the Partridge / Gordon Street intersection.
Vehicles entering Jetty Road from Brighton Road can travel west along Jetty Road up until Waterloo Street, where they will be directed to turn right.
Emergency service vehicles will be granted access at all times as per the Traffic Management Plan.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times into businesses via temporary walkways or ramps as needed.
Parking in side streets will be maintained, and the two Partridge Street car parks will remain open and accessible.
Delivery vehicles will have access to Jetty Road, west of the Partridge / Gordon streets intersection via side streets and on foot along Jetty Road.
The City zone, which extends from Brighton Road to the Partridge / Gordon streets intersection remains open to vehicles traffic and pedestrians.
From late August
Construction works will extend into the Transition zone of Jetty Road, which is west of the Partridge / Gordon streets intersection to Nile Street.
Vehicle access will be maintained from Cowper Street across Jetty Road to Byron Street.
One-way vehicle access onto Jetty Road from Moseley Street, via a right hand turn only from Moseley Street, will be maintained.
However, the exit from Jetty Road will move from Sussex Street to Nile Street, where vehicles will be directed to turn left off Jetty Road.
Works completed by the end of December
The roadway and footpaths, from Nile Street to the edge of Moseley Square, are expected to be opened for use by the end of December 2025, with minor work around services and garden beds continuing.
This will mean the footpaths, parking bays and roadway are at the same level from Moseley Square to Sussex Street and the parking spaces will be at the same level as the footpaths with mountable kerbs from Sussex Street to Nile Street.
The traffic lights at the intersection of Jetty Road and Moseley Street will also be installed by this time.
Vehicle access and traffic flow in that section of Jetty Road, from Nile Street into Moseley Street and into Colley Terrace, will return to normal.
From January 2026
Jetty Road will be open to all vehicles, and the Glenelg tram is expected to be operating again.
From mid-January 2026, footpaths in the Transition zone will continue to be constructed, but access to businesses will be maintained at all times with temporary walkways and ramps as needed.
Construction will also take place in the side streets off Jetty Road and timed entry/ exits closures from or to Jetty Road may be in place.
Temporary re-routing of buses
During the construction of the Coast and Transition zones, from August to December 2026, buses will also be re-routed from Jetty Road.
Buses will continue to service Moseley Street and will exit along High Street in lieu of Jetty Road, Gordon/Partridge streets and Colley Terrace to Wigley Reserve.
Please refer to the Adelaide Metro website for up-to-date timetables and routes.
Bus services will return to normal by the end of December once Jetty Road has reopened to vehicle traffic.
Schedule of works
The above information, including the proposed dates for construction and program of works, is correct at this time. We are continuing to work through the details and refine plans to ensure access to Jetty Road businesses is retained and traffic can move around the precinct as freely as possible.
