Road asphalting to start on Monday 17 November

13 November 2025

Construction of the roadway, including asphalting will begin on Monday 17 November 2025 and continue for three weeks.

The works will start on the southern side of Jetty Road, from Moseley Square, working up to the Gordon / Partridge streets intersection.

This will mean the northern side of Jetty Road will be used to support paving operations, ensuring work continues uninterrupted. The asphalting work will then move to the northern side of Jetty Road.

While the road reconstruction at the Gordon / Partridge streets intersection will be completed next year, outside of peak traffic periods, the intersection will be under traffic management to support the asphalting work on Jetty Road.

How the roadway will be reconstructed

The work will be undertaken in four zones along the street.

Step 1 - Works will begin with the use of a profiling machine to remove the existing asphalt, followed by excavation of the roadway to remove excess and unsuitable materials, and hand jackhammering near the tram line. Please note that this work will be noisy and dusty, but the contractors will endeavour to minimise the dust. To assist businesses, from this Friday, the team will be dropping off A3 and A4 size ‘We are Open’ signage for businesses that decide to close their doors due to noise or dust.

Step 2 - Base materials will be laid and then compacted to prepare the road base.

Step 3 - Layers of asphalt will be laid. Please note it will have a strong tar-like smell that will dissipate over the day after it’s installed. These roadworks will roll out on multiple fronts simultaneously on the southern side, before moving over to the northern side.

The five pedestrian crossings over Jetty Road will remain open. As the machinery moves towards a pedestrian crossing, the crossing will be unavailable for approximately an hour, but the other crossing points will remain open.
