Community Consultation Results

28 May 2026

Jetty Road, Brighton, is scheduled for road surface renewal in 2027–28. Before we carry out this important work, we want to ensure the road continues to function safely and effectively for everyone who uses it.

As part of this planning, Council conducted community consultation in March 2026 to determine whether improvements could be made as part of the renewal, particularly to enhance pedestrian safety.

Importantly, this project is focused on road renewal. It is not a broader redevelopment of the precinct.

Some changes to on-street parking will be required because a number of existing parking spaces do not meet current Australian Standards and are not fit for purpose.

In many cases, spaces are too short to safely accommodate modern vehicles, which can result in cars overhanging across driveways. The Australian Standard dimensions for on-street parking spaces range from 5.5m to 6.7m. Some spaces on Jetty Road, Brighton, are as small as 4.4m.

Initial investigations have also identified opportunities to improve parking in some locations, including the potential to create additional spaces near the library by reconfiguring existing spaces.

At its meeting on 26 May 2026, Council received the results of community consultation, with almost 300 people providing feedback. Pedestrian safety was identified as the highest priority, followed by parking availability, access and traffic safety.

These insights will inform the recommended design direction as the project progresses to detailed design, subject to adoption of the 2026-27 Annual Business Plan.
