Civil Works Completed

31 March 2026

Rehabilitation works at Gilbertson Gully have now been completed, helping to reduce erosion and improve access for users of the gully.

The project, delivered by contractors Plot Works, commenced on 2 March 2026 and progressed smoothly, finishing a week ahead of schedule on 23 March 2026.

Key elements of the project included extending existing rock chutes that guide water flow, providing increased protection during rain events, and installing stepping stones to improve crossing access.

Minor path upgrades included constructing cement-treated, compacted-rubble paths at three previously unsealed access points along Gilbertson Road. A path behind the protective gabion wall along the creek was also regraded and finished with cement-treated rubble to create a flatter, more even surface.

All the works were designed to preserve the natural character of the gully.

Tree and vegetation removal was kept to a minimum, with machinery restricted to existing trails to limit environmental impact. Only minor trimming of branches was required, along with the removal of two tree saplings to facilitate creek realignment.

Following the completion of the civil works, more than 28,000 plants will be planted throughout the gully in winter 2027 to enhance vegetation.
