The City of Holdfast Bay is renewing these playspaces to provide safe and modern recreational spaces that meet current Australian Standards and the needs of local families, children and the wider community.

Three reserves are being renewed:

• Parkinson Reserve, Glenelg North
• Gemmell Green Reserve, Brighton
• Kibby Reserve, Glenelg North

Each reserve will receive upgrades tailored to its size, location, and community needs.

Council requires two distinct concepts so the community can provide input and help determine the preferred option. This ensures meaningful engagement and gives residents a real choice in shaping their local playspace.

Each design includes one major play structure, such as a climbing unit, tower, or slide complex, that provides high play value and becomes the centrepiece of the playspace.

• Parkinson Reserve, including basketball/netball zone: $340,000
• Gemmell Green Reserve: $180,000
• Kibby Reserve: $120,000

Planting will not be included in the playspace renewals at Gemmell Green, Brighton or Kibby Reserve, Glenelg North. However, additional landscaping and planting will be incorporated at Parkinson Reserve, Glenelg North. This will help soften areas of hardscape, such as paving, and improve integration with the surrounding open grassed areas.

Gemmell Green and Kibby Reserve: Yes, both will remain fully fenced due to traffic and proximity to roads and car parks.

Parkinson Reserve: Only partial fencing is proposed, including new 900mm high fencing to replace the existing fence.

October 2026: Works completed

All personal details provided will be removed from public documents. Your input will help Council identify the preferred concept for each reserve and guide any design refinements before construction.

After consultation closes, Council will publish a “You Said – We Heard” summary. This will outline the preferred concept for each reserve, key themes from community feedback and how comments influenced the final designs. Final designs will be shared on the engagement website and via Council communication channels.
