Construction ongoing

2 March 2026

Many residents and Coast Park users will have seen that works are well underway to install two Gross Pollutant Traps at the twin stormwater outfalls at Harrow Road, Somerton Park.

Works have commenced with the temporary removal of the rock revetment, the placement of a temporary cofferdam, and the installation of dewatering pumps.

Over the next week or so, visitors will see temporary stockpiles of a clay-like material near the vehicle ramp, which is being removed from the site and dried before being taken to a tip.

Please note that the end of Harrow Road and The Esplanade will remain closed during the project to enable safe undertaking of the work, and we thank path users and vehicles for their patience with detours around the site.

These two Gross Pollutant Traps are large concrete units with a trash screen that collects gross (larger than 150microns) pollutants within the units. This improves water quality of the stormwater going out to the ocean. At completion of this project, the City of Holdfast Bay will have 10 units similar to these along the coastlines on the major pipe outfalls.
