Construction Update 25 March 2025

Progress Update

Another major project milestone has been reached, as all main pipe and culvert lines are complete along both Whyte Street and Tarlton Street!

The installation of side entry pits is also well underway along both streets. These pits are spaced according to surrounding land contours, and appropriate sizes are selected for each sub-catchment’s expected flows. This allows overland stormwater to effectively enter our underground system.

From these pits, the stormwater will travel through the recently completed pipe runs towards our newly installed gross pollutant trap for litter catchment. Then, this filtered stormwater will be released through our upgraded beach outlets.

Additionally, the Whyte Street/Esplanade roundabout is to be reinstated. The works include removing temporary rubble, placing new base materials, and then laying asphalt road pavement. These works are expected to take about two weeks to complete.

We ask that residents and visitors drive carefully and be mindful of level changes, loose material, and equipment near these construction works.

Road Closures

The Esplanade and Whyte Street intersection is closing for the roundabout's reinstatement, which is expected to take about two weeks. Residents and visitors on Whyte Street are kindly asked to use either Skipton Avenue or the eastern end of Whyte Street while the Esplanade is closed.

Traffic detours will be displayed for road users to navigate safely around any closures. Through traffic is detoured around the closure locations, and residents on Whyte Street, Tarlton Street, Esplanade, Wilkinson Avenue, and Bickford Terrace are asked to speak to traffic controllers if they are unsure of how to access their property.

For any other specific access needs, we encourage residents to speak to the contractors on-site, who can help.

We are working with our contractors to minimise any inconveniences to residents and visitors as these major works progress, and we thank you for your continued patience.
